SUBMERGED BOUNDARY
2024
Submerged Boundary engages in a multi-layered critique of the museum and gallery system, using meticulously constructed paper scenes to recreate and express dissatisfaction with the white spaces of traditional art institutions. The floor of the paper gallery is transformed into an abstract palette using colored water, resulting in a visually striking and disconcerting effect. Liquid media flooding the ground with vibrant colors challenge the traditional aesthetics, boundaries, and norms of artistic expression. The intentional use of water represents fluidity, change, and the breaking of the established mold. The lighting in the paper gallery reflects the clean and flawless atmosphere common to mainstream art institutions. However, the presence of colored water breaks down this purity, leaving visible stains and traces of wetness on the walls. This deliberate act serves as a powerful visual metaphor, criticizing the art spaces' apparent inflexibility and inaccessibility. Through this constructed image, viewers are invited to consider the impact of institutional structures on artistic expression. The photograph invites reflection on the fluidity of artistic boundaries and encourages a rethinking of established norms in the art world.
