HEARTBEAT
2023
Heartbeat explores common human rhythms and fragile connections by creating an electrocardiogram out of cardboard. Each piece of cardboard is divided into vertical segments of varying sizes, collaged with images from National Geographic depicting urban landscapes, natural wonders, historical sites, ecological crises and natural disasters. These seemingly isolated fragments reveal intricate interconnections, reflecting the complex and intimate relationship between humans and the natural world. The gradation of colors from orange to green to more complex shades symbolizes the diversity of human experience while implying the delicate balance behind these systems. By juxtaposing scenes of human achievement with images of environmental crisis, it critically examines the duality of progress: how humans shape the world while also being shaped by it. It calls on viewers to reflect on their own roles and responsibilities in an era of growing geographical, political and emotional divisions.
